How To Build A $100k One-Person Business (In Less Than 3 Months)
As a 40+ year old ex-corporate executive with decades of experience.

We are living in the golden age of solopreneurship.
Starting a one-person business has never been:
Easier.
Cheaper.
Less Risky.
But most people overcomplicate the process.
If you’re a current corporate 9–5 employee, you’ve got everything you need to get started.
Your job proves:
Someone will pay for your skillset.
You can show up consistently on time.
You understand how to navigate relationships and clients.
But here’s the mindset you need to shift next.
Making a $100k business has never been easier before.
The maths is pretty simple.
Making $100k per year is:
1000 people paying you $100 (per year)
50 people paying you $2,000 (per year)
10 people paying you $10k per year (or $833 per month)
Or any combination of these numbers.
In the past, the easiest way to make six figures was through selling 100% of your time, energy, and skillset to one customer:
A big corporation.
But technology is destroying this model.
Now, you can make six-figures (or more) by selling your product or service to a global online marketplace. You don’t need any permission. There are no gatekeepers, and no boss you need to suck up to.
Let me be clear, I’m not promising you’ll become a millionaire.
But if you want to build a lifestyle business that gives you the time, location, and work freedom, making six figures as a solopreneur has never been easier than it is now.
Why?
Leverage.
The average person in 2025 has more leverage than a person in 2000.
The biggest trends in the last 25 years are:
Smart devices: Laptops, phones, and tablets have become smarter, cheaper, and more powerful. There are 16-year-olds making money on TikTok with nothing but a smartphone in their bedrooms.
Internet penetration: More people each year are connected to the Internet. In 2000, the global Internet penetration was 6%. In 2025, the global Internet penetration is 70%
Social media: In 2000, social media was still in its early stages. Simple text interface, with few images or connectivity. In 2025, social media is where most attention is shifting with video, text, and podcasting.
Artificial Intelligence: An abundance of tools allows the average person to automate, deliver, and scale at a rate previously not possible. One person with AI can now do the work of 20+ people.
All the technologies have changed the norms of how we work.
We no longer need to organise within large corporations to effectively sell our products or services. Just as technology replaced the need to work on farms or in poor factory conditions.
And now technology is destroying the corporate office.
But you need to be careful how you start your business.
Start by…
Solving a bloody, painful, urgent problem.
There are only 3 problems you can solve:
Health.
Wealth.
Relationships.
Every other problem is a subset of these problems.
But 80% of solopreneurs don’t even know what problem they are solving for their customers.
They think they are solving:
Data visualization.
Ghostwriting on LinkedIn.
Personal branding for C-level executives.
Nope, nope, and more nope.
Those are YOUR services, not your customers’ problems.
People don’t buy data visualization. They buy better decision-making to make money.
People don’t buy ghostwriting services. They buy engagement to increase their status.
People don’t buy personal branding. They buy being seen as a respected thought leader in their industry.
Pick a painful problem.
But understand what it means to your customer.
For instance, I sell sales and marketing services.
But I tell clients WHAT I solve:
“I help your company make more money.”
I don’t tell them HOW:
“I help you create a digital funnel, sales, and positioning.”
They need to know WHAT problem you solve before they want to know HOW you solve it.
As a corporate employee, you’ve got the skillset to solve painful problems.
But you’re not framing the problem correctly.
And then solve that problem for rich people.
“I think I’ll work with small businesses.”
I caught up with an old friend in Malaysia.
She wants to leave her job and start a high-ticket consulting service.
Recently, office politics has started to take a toll on her mental health. She’s finding herself waking up anxious, spending the day stressed, and going to bed anxious.
But she knows she wants to work for herself.
A mistake that most solopreneurs make is targeting ‘small business’ clients because they feel like the stakes are lower and that they can deliver for these types of clients.
But small business = small paycheques.
There’s nothing wrong with small businesses. But you can’t offer them a high-ticket consulting offer. They simply can’t afford it.
Instead, solve rich people’s problems.
The same skill that can solve the problems of a small business can solve the problems of a big business. Your skillset doesn’t change. But WHO you solve it for matters.
Yes, context and size will differ.
But largely the same principles apply.
In my world, I sell sales and marketing consulting at a done-for-you level to Family Offices and Group Structure Businesses. These are businesses generating 7–9-figure annual revenue.
They have lots of needs but are underserved.
My support for small business owners (start-ups, solopreneurs, etc) is at a lower-tier, done-with-you offer. They can access me through a weekly 1:1 call and WhatsApp.
In my community, I’m supporting more people in the 9–5 job make that transition to solopreneurship while they are working.
Start with high-ticket items, then scale down to lower-ticket items.
Become a category king to erase competition.
You want to be #1 in your chosen niche.
The beautiful thing about the internet is that everyone can be #1 at something.
Here’s how to own a category:
Stack: All your skills, mindset, knowledge, and abilities.
Segment: Appeal to a group of people who are underserved.
Combine: Passion, interests, hobbies, and lived experiences.
This creates an unfair advantage.
When you put this all together, there is no competition. You become unique. And no one can compete with you at being you.
When you become unique, you become a unicorn to someone.
There are a group of people who are dying for your product and service. In an AI-driven world, personality and branding are becoming more valuable even as they become rarer.
People buy who you are before they buy what you do.
You’ve got a $100k stuck in your head.
You don’t need anything else.
You’ve got everything you need to start a one-person business.
That’s why it’s possible to build a $100k business using just the existing knowledge in your mind, not selling your time.
2026 is your year to finally start your business.
